My dear husband, Jordan, and myself had the incredible privilege of traveling the United States this past year, performing our original material as an acoustic duo in many a coffee shop, music venue, restaurant… anywhere that would have us! Of course when booking a DIY tour, it left us the opportunity to splice into our road-weary travels a bit of what felt to be vacation. We lovingly dubbed our experience “tourcation” and rightfully so, as we weren’t making much money :) Although my intent was to share our time with you while in the thick of the moment, we found ourselves hastily working to promote upcoming performances, having tough conversations over coffee or during draining six hour drives, or simply taking in the sights and sounds around us without the burden of a computer screen. Although most often, my moments were deeply consumed by capturing the beautiful adventure in front of us with a newly acquired hobby… photography. Certainly I am young in my craft, but find inspiration often in beautiful images shared on blog posts, coffee shop walls, or book store postcards so as to understand the art of picture taking. Though I don’t intend to pursue photography as anything more than a place to breathe in beauty and exhale memories, I thought I might still share with you pieces of our journey from behind the lens.
So to begin. Colorado.
It was here that marked the beginning. We had already been on our very first tour for over one week, but not until we spotted the mountains did we come to the full realization that we were meandering far from home. Far from the flatlands of the midwest and the subconscious comfort of knowing that we could simply turn around and be in our own bed in just a days drive. Though not any longer. Not upon trekking into the mountains. And oh my, how we didn’t realize then that the venture forward would mean that we could not come back the same.
