My sweet mamas, I am so for you.
I say this with an extra measure of adoration today as this weekend had me more fully aware that no matter how sacrificially I give to motherhood, I will not always feel confident in my ability. Some moments simply expose flaws, and I realize I have two choices to make. Either put the pressure on my children to live maturely in spite of my inability to respond with patience and understanding, or be willing to learn from my shortcomings and remind them how deeply they are loved.
The latter is by far harder to naturally embrace, but therein lies why motherhood is so beautiful. You will give of yourself over and over again, releasing expectation that your efforts will not, at points, feel futile. Yet still you will give some more, knowing the reward of pouring patiently into a life being molded by your influence.
I think this is why the words of the proverb “Parents are the pride of their children.” There will come a time when your children will understand what was required of you to be their mama, and they will be full of pride over you. Your work, your friends, even your spouse cannot envelop the same pride over you as that of your children once they are grown.
Live in the challenge of motherhood and you will indeed receive your reward.
