There are a few things I’ve learned with these One Year Cake Smash sessions: 1) go for the vanilla cake … chocolate can look like several things, 2) apparently a drier, more crumbly cake shows better, 3) always get photos before you bring out the cake because you never know what will happen when you set a little one loose on sugar, 4) don’t expect to eat the cake later – go buy yourself a cupcake instead, and 5) every child is so different and it’s just so stinkin’ beautiful. You would think every one year old would want to just sit there and dive in, like most of us adults would if told we could go fist first into a cake, but that’s simply not the case. Curiosity, mobility, and personality all come out in this simple moment. The little one that you are speaking into is so uniquely and perfectly made. That is worth celebrating – cake and all. Happy birthday little man.
