Slicing Avocados

Yes, there is a technique to it!  Slicing an avocado that is – but thankfully that’s not what this little tid-bit is about.  (Although I bet ehow.com has an exemplary tutorial if you’re interested :))

On the contrary, I must be the one in need of ehow’s instruction, given an unfortunate slip of a sharp-edged knife this past Saturday afternoon.  No need to dive into the whole fiasco, but the tip of my finger didn’t stand to parade out of that encounter in one piece.  Although nothing a bit of Neosporin, some sterile gauze, and carefully prepared meals can’t handle.  Well at least that is the hope.  I’m trusting that a little scar is all I will see as a result of my poor slicing of one of my all time favorite green foods.  Though for the time being, my finger is a bit numb where the blade took its bite, and on account of my lack of medical know-how, I wonder if it’s possible that I chopped off a nerve ending or two.  Or maybe it won’t be that bad.  Maybe my sensors will be on point, but instead emitted from a strangely shaped finger tip.  The more I give myself the opportunity to think on this, the more I realize that the mishap itself wasn’t the worst part!  Rather, it’s not knowing how my unfortunate finger will recover… even though it will indeed recover.

So here sits my finger, inconveniently messed with, now finding itself cocooned in white wrapping, just waiting to emerge to its scarred but normal self.  Have you ever felt that way before?  For myself, this wounded apparatus is truly a reflection of the change that is overwhelming my every corner, but wont’ give me any insight into what awaits me just on the other side.  Everything stands suspended, like marionettes whose puppeteer is anticipating that curtain to open.  What will the next motion be?  Will the wave of a hand or the sway of a foot turn the audience to erupt in applause, or leave their seats vacant to mimic an empty stare?  Change can be a beautiful thing.  Even the expectation of change can be invigorating.  Undoubtedly, the most exciting adventures begin with change!  Though one is always left to wonder where that change will leave us.  So I look at my finger and I realize… that I have no idea.
